What Is Visual Identity in Portrait Photography?
Visual identity is the impression people form when they see you. In a portrait, it comes from more than your clothes or the background. It lives in your expression, your posture, the way you occupy the space, and the choices we make together about what to show.
Before I photograph someone, I want to understand their work and the way they want to be seen. What do they bring into a room? What do clients trust them with? Does their current image reflect the person they have become?
Those questions shape the session. A founder may need images that show both his/her authority and warmth. An expert may want to look approachable without losing the depth of his/her experience. Two people can wear the same black jacket and need entirely different portraits.
This is why visual identity photography begins with a conversation. The photographs are the result of understanding the person first and capturing it precisely second.
A strong portrait doesn’t have to explain everything about you. It should give people a truthful place to begin.
